Liz Spear Handwoven

Neal Howard

A few years after we started doing shows together, Neal Howard began giving me the short woven pieces off of her scarf warps, and these beautiful pieces of cloth, so different than mine, sat around my studio. Eventually, it occurred to me to piece one of these into one of my garments; we shared a fair booth because our work looks so good together, after all. I'd been piecing my own scraps together for my various hats, so it didn't seem a stretch. Some of those small Neal pieces may sit around for a couple of years before I come up with just exactly the right fabric. This is color play at its finest, for me: Neal's color sense sparks and inspires mine: I've woven entire warps of yardage to work with some of her fabric pieces. Thanks, Neal.
